Irene – What Will She Be Like?

Having made it through the earthquake tremors of yesterday I now wonder about the hurricane winds and rain due in two days.

Hurricane Irene is barreling through the Bahamas now and is on a course to hit the Outer Banks on Friday night or Saturday.

And we, as careful coastal residents have bought our extra supplies of batteries, water, and canned goods. The generator has been ordered and should be delivered tomorrow or the next day. I’m going to get the chain saw ready for action tomorrow. Plus we have a plan for evacuation if we are given the order to do so.

We are watching and listening to the weather reports and forecasts, praying, and waiting to see how things develop.

I also find the name Irene an unusual one for a hurricane. Irene in new Testament Greek means peace. The Irene barreling down on the east coast is far from peaceful.

Rather than peaceful, I suspect that she will tear some trees, homes and other items to pieces.

And so we plan for the worst and hope for the best with the approaching storm. God help us!
