Crabs of Washington, North Carolina

So I pulled into Washington, North Carolina this past Saturday late afternoon and parallel parked on the street along the river. A wedding was going on at the town gazebo right next to the Visitor Center. The wedding guests were seated, eagerly awaiting the bride and groom. One by one in processed the bridesmaids. Then eventually the bride was escorted up a sidewalk to the gazebo.

Right nearby people were walking up and down the boardwalk next to the river, talking, watching the boats, sitting on benches, and many ladies watched the wedding proceedings from afar, interested in the goings on.

And then there was me, out with my camera, observing, snapping, sizing things up. In my walk around town I found several skillfully painted crabs, each with a story to tell I am sure. Here are photos of the crabs I found. I imagine there were others as well. I just did not find them. Enjoy! And go see them for yourself sometime!

How clever!! Who paints these? Did the plaques say?

Thanks Leia! You ask good questions. I didn’t take the time to read the plaques. I was on a mission 🙂

I imagine the text had something to do with the sponsor, the meaning, etc. Next time I’m there I’ll have to spy it out..
